About Hazelwood Grove

Hazelwood Grove is more than just a garden — it’s a place rooted in memories, love, and a lifelong passion for flowers and food.

The Hazel, in Hazelwood, comes from the name of the woman who first began shaping this garden, who collected an amazing array of dahlias and roses, and who spent many hours dedicated to creating this space. What makes it even more special is that it also happens to be the name of my grandmother.

My grandmother Hazel, was a truly wonderful gardener and the person who first inspired my love of flowers and gardening from a young age. She had a natural flair for floristry and would often bring flowers in from the garden, arranging them beautifully in a vase. She saw the beauty not only in growing flowers, but also in growing food. To her, a garden was never just about plants — it was about slowing down, sharing food, and creating a place where people could gather together.

When I first came to Hazelwood, Hazel’s husband Alan had hired me (through Love Grow Eat) to weed the garden every fortnight. As we slowly cleared the brambles and rogue jasmine, we began uncovering the most beautiful dahlias and roses hidden underneath. Seeing what was already there sparked the idea of transforming the space into the wedding venue it is today.

After a few conversations with Hazel, Alan, and their daughter Cheryl, we came to an agreement and I was given their blessing to begin bringing the garden back to life once again. And from there, Hazelwood Grove began.

Every tree planted, every flower bed created, and every quiet corner has been shaped with care and intention. Hazelwood Grove is designed to feel beautiful, welcoming, and just a little bit special — the kind of place where you can take a breath, wander among the trees, and simply enjoy being outdoors.

Today, Hazelwood Grove is being opened for small weddings, garden gatherings, and relaxed Sunday visits. It’s a space created to be shared, just as gardens always should be 🌿
